  • I am taking a class to learn a second language. The things I am having trouble with are the things I have trouble with in my native language (English) as well. Such as:

    • speaking in front of others
    • thinking of things to say
    • taking too long to say something because I need to prepare the wording in my head to make sure I am precise and will not be misunderstood (and get misunderstood anyway)
    • not rambling once I do start saying something
    • understanding what other people are saying when there is a lot of background noise
    • making eye contact

Thankfully as soon as the lesson is over I can go directly home and be alone for several hours.

    1. Consider getting a VPS to play around with to learn how this stuff works before you expose your data to the internet.
    2. Learn about how DNS works. You will create an A record (and possibly also an AAAA recordy) for your domain pointing to your home IP (or VPS).
    3. If SquareSpace does not let you set records (and will only allow you to use Squarespace-hosted services) you will need to migrate your domain to another provider. I like gandi.net.
    4. Learn how your router does port forwarding. You will forward port(s) for the calendar service from your router to your home PC. (Or learn how to do firewalls on your VPS.)
    5. Before you actually connect to it with credentials over the internet, set up SSL/TLS certificates with LetsEncrypt.

    1. Creates people and invites them to a garden party.
    2. Clearly explains the rules. The one rule. Just one. Nice and easy.
    3. People do not follow the one rule and then try to make eye contact while lying about why they broke the rule.
    4. Leaves the party and plays with ants.
