I was at a party over the weekend and afterwards someone told me I was the most fun person there. I was very surprised because I felt really uncomfortable dancing and laughing and just “letting loose”.
I’ve always been a shy person, and that sort of thing doesn’t come naturally to me. I think I’ve just become better at pretending to be someone I’m not. If I was to be myself, I’d have sat in the corner and barely said anything, which is generally not conducive to building relationships with peers.
So I felt like it wasn’t my best work after I left, until that person made me remember that how I perceive myself is different to how other people perceive me. It was a positive experience.
