Well apparently I’m worse at geography than I thought I was rip. I could have sworn that Cordoba was the capital, but I mean I haven’t studied South American geography in like 15 years

But just because somebody enjoys history is not a warning sign or red flag. You have to study history to learn political trends and how the world operates.

It’s dead simple. It is a meme. They may find that funny and humor and novelty help beginners ease into new environments.

Just set this as the first thing to boot and then teach them to remove it
Respectfully, as a historian I’m going to have to counter that point. Yes, we did take many Nazi scientists and import them to the United States. Many of them became naturalized citizens and were re-educated in American values. This was done because the USSR was actively doing the same thing and we did not want to be losing valuable research and researchers at the start of an information war. These people did contribute to the betterment of humanity even with the stains of their past. I’m not excusing actions of any party, just being objective. But my main point is that these people who were Nazis by and large should no longer be considered Nazis after integration into a non-nazi society. The distro Dev that everybody’s angry about still very much wants to be a whiny and annoying Nazi.

politics @lemmy.world•White House advisor Stephen Miller states the President has Plenary Authority and freezes after realizing what he said.English
211·29 days agoPlenary authority is another way to say unilateral power in one area. The area being discussed is military deployment and control. So not quite dictatorship but everything short of it. This is significant because Mr. Miller is arguing that Mr. Trump has the authority to ignore the court that is ordering Mr. Trump 's. Deployments of US military forces unconstitutional and illegal.
Definition: The term “plenary” means full, complete, or absolute. In a legal sense, it refers to a power granted to a governing body or person that is absolute and without limitations within a specific, well-defined domain…

52·1 month agoNot astounded at all that you completely missed the point.
Maybe I can spell it out a little bit clearer. I’m saying that Christianity and Islam have been in a power struggle for over 1400 years. It is ridiculous to say that Western Civilization was forged in these events and to not also realize that Middle Eastern civilization was forged by the same events that impacted both civilizations.
I’m excusing neither I’m holding both accountable. Both committed atrocities upon the other in the name of their flavor of God.

World News@lemmy.ml•Islamophobia is the new global currency of powerEnglish
45·1 month agoBe careful with statements like that because one could just as easily reverse them. Especially when Islam is six centuries younger than Christianity. I would like you to consider for a fact that The holy Land has been conquered many times by many different people because it is important to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
al-Futūḥāt al-ʾIslāmiyya (the Islamic conquests). Is what kicked off that whole back and forth power struggle.
Islamic Conquests (approx. 622-900 CE) 610 CE: Muhammad begins receiving his first revelations on Mount Hira. 622 CE: Muhammad’s arrival in Medina marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar and the first Muslim city-state. 629/630 CE: Mecca is conquered by the burgeoning Muslim forces. 632-661 CE (Rashidun Caliphate): The early successors of Muhammad lead rapid expansion into Byzantine and Sasanian territories. 711 CE: Muslim forces begin their conquest of the Iberian Peninsula (modern Spain and Portugal). By 900 CE: Muslim armies had conquered vast territories in North Africa, the Middle East, parts of Europe, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. The Crusades (approx. 1095-1303 CE) 1095-1099: The First Crusade is called by Pope Urban II and results in the capture of Jerusalem. 1099: The Kingdom of Jerusalem is established by the Crusaders. 1144: The Crusader state of Edessa is captured by the Muslim leader Imad ad-Din Zangi, prompting the Second Crusade. 1187: Saladin, the Muslim leader, recaptures Jerusalem. 1189-1192: The Third Crusade, led by Richard the Lionheart and others, fails to retake Jerusalem but secures pilgrimage access. 1202-1204: The Fourth Crusade diverts to sack the Christian city of Constantinople. 1291 CE: The Fall of Acre to the Mamluks marks the final expulsion of the Crusaders from the Holy Land, though the last major Crusades continued into the late 13th century.

I was wrong got my geography mixed up. However, technically in this timeline, I’m pretty sure that there aren’t countries anymore. It’s been even longer since I read the book but if I remember correctly, after a large number of wars we end up with basically the federal planetary government.
