F-Droid@lemmy.ml•F-Droid and Samsung "Auto Blocker"English
3·8 months agoUSB Debugging is disabled, when im travelling. I had two such situations last week. At the first, i had enough time to shutdown and lock the device, before that. But the second time, they asked to unlock the device. I have no idea, if they can force me to do that, when a password is set, instead of only a fingerprint. But i don’t want to risk anything. Its not that i have to hide something. There is nothing on the phone what is not allowed. Only 2 VPN connections, which is not that good in China and some other countries. One for access to my home network and the other which i use in public networks.
I don’t want to have any problems with the authorities (in any country). As long as I don’t have to hand over the device, they can have a look at what’s on the phone. But I also don’t want anything to be installed that doesn’t belong there and I want to use my VPN the way I want to.
The second situation, was the first time in my travelling, when someone asked me to unlock the device. They didn’t take it with them after unlocking it (unlike the situation where it wasn’t unlocked) but I don’t see what could stop them from doing so.

F-Droid@lemmy.ml•F-Droid and Samsung "Auto Blocker"English
61·8 months agoThat’s not the point. I travel a lot and here the phone is occasionally checked by the local authorities. I have no control over what the Chinese authorities do with the phone when they take it with them. Needless to say, I don’t plug the phone into any USB ports myself. The fact that apps from the Playstore are not affected by this is also OK, but I have installed very few apps via the Playstore, most of them are from F-Droid.
To make a long story short: There were several such situations on my last trip and I was happy that I had this “Auto Blocker” active. But it’s not a permanent solution.
Many thx. This is exactly what I want. Will try that when I’m batch from vacation.
Many thx. This would be fantastic
Is it planned to add this feature in the near future?

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Looking for a photo map software
1·1 year agoDarktable? It’s a RAW developer and photo managing software on Linux, Windows and Mac, a little bit like Adobe Lightroom, but OpenSource. If GPS coordinates are in the RAW, sidecar or jpg files, the photos can be displayed in the map module. Much better, if you have a GPX file and no GPS data embedded, you can assign the photos to the GPX route, as long the timestamp of DateTimeOriginal in Exif is accurate. If the timestamp differs, you can specify the difference.
Maybe Digikam can do the same. But I don’t like the KDE framework which is used there. Digikam is available for Linux and Windows (yes, I know it’s strange).

Linux@lemmy.ml•text clarity on windows is so good, can I get the same on linux?
63·2 years agoI have a similar issue but in my case between KDE and Gnome. KDE is much cleaner by display the fonts as Gnome. But I prefer using Gnome, because of the cluttered interface of most KDE applications.
This is for what I have created a Extension called “SyncMarks”. It’s available for Firefox from AMO. The same exist for all Chromium based browser, including Chromium, Chrome, Edge and a lot more. For Edge its available in the Microsoft Edge Store, all others can sideload the extension. The extension is cross-browser compatible, so that you can sync bookmarks between Firefox and Chromium. As a backend for best results, you can use the PHP based backend for selhosting or any WebDAV as a alternative (not all functions available). Installation of the backend is super easy. You can find everything at Codeberg.
BTW. The PHP backend works as WebApp, so that you can access the bookmarks also, when the extension is not installed, from any browser.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Playing "The Planet Crafter" via ProtonEnglish
2·2 years agoMaybe… If I use the stable version, it works also sometimes with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1, but has only 2fps. I can remove this parameter with the dev version and have 45fps.
Perfect. I can try it when I’m back from vacation in 3 weeks. Horrible internet connection here in caribes.
Nice. Many thx

Boost for Lemmy@lemmy.world•Mark as read on scrollEnglish
1·2 years agoCan you please tell when this will be released, or is there some sort of beta version available, to test this feature?
By default, according to the RFC 6238 standard, they are generated every 30 seconds. But this time step can manually set to faster intervals. However faster as 30 seconds is not very user friendly. RFC 6238

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Webmail server with multiple mail accounts
2·2 years agoHmm sounds like a Webmail client, like Roundcube. Luckily (at least from my point of view) it has no ‘unified inbox’, but you can have as many mail accounts you want, with one login, from different vendors. You can selhost it easily. I use it on a Raspberry Pi with one login and have then access to gmail, yahoo and some other accounts.
To mimic a ‘unified inbox’ you can forward all the different accounts, to one ‘major’ account, so that you receive every mail in this inbox. Than you can create a ‘sending alias’, to answer the incoming mails with the proper SMTP service. Nothing easier than that with Roundcube.
Feel free to try my SyncMarks. It’s available for any Desktop browser and can sync across all Browsers. The backend is working as Web GUI.
Backend: https://codeberg.org/Offerel/SyncMarks-Webapp
Browser Extension: https://codeberg.org/Offerel/SyncMarks-Extension
I don’t know what happens with manifest v3, because the Mozilla variant is not compatible to Chromium. Maybe I have to use 2 independent branches. But I try to avoid that. Manifest v3 is a big mess of bullsh*t.
But anyway feel free to try it. You are welcome.

F-Droid@lemmy.ml•How can I get automatic installation of updates?
2·2 years agoYes that’s the right way. It works mostly without issues here since some months. Personally I have changed from Droid-ify to F-Droid basic since auto update stopped at some point with Droid-ify where it worked before. I have no idea why. Neo-store has issues in the stable branch with notifications.
