World News@lemmy.world•UN labor agency report warns of rising threat of excess heat, climate change on world's workersEnglish
8·2 years agoHere in the Philippines, we have been having 40-42 Celsius of perceived heat consistently in the past several days.
Schools have adjusted class hours as a temporary measure to help alleviate the heat issue.
But it’s hard to expect the Government to do anything for the working class since they’re in air conditioned houses and cars and offices.

235·2 years agoGenuine question: why do we need this type of thing?
Especially in view of the harm it can cause, what’s the point of creating this aside from generating shareholder value?
Sure, creating a video out of text quickly is cool, but is there an actual need for this?

Technology@lemmy.world•Audacity adds AI audio editing capabilities thanks to free Intel OpenVINO pluginsEnglish
12·2 years agoI’m a sound engineer and I use different DAWs for different purposes. There’s just no one DAW that does all, so this is a compromise I’m happy to go with.
When I do podcast editing, I use Audacity to split multi-track WAV files and for truncating silence. It’s just waaaay easier to do this there than on Reaper. Plus it has a loopback recording feature built-in which I use for Zoom meeting recordings etc.
I use Pro Tools for audio post, but for most of what I do I’m a Reaper guy. It’s very powerful as you said and it just works.
I know it can be a hassle switching DAWs (muscle memory on shortcuts can get weird), but for me, I like making the most of the strengths of a tool rather than forcing something to do everything.

There’s been recruitment here in the Philippines for similar AI training tasks with very little pay, too. But that thing in Kenya is much much worse.
