If you join an official public server, there’s an extremely high chance you’ll join with cheater bots that spawn endless, aimbotting snipers. It’s less of a problem on community servers as they’re actively moderated by players, but official servers have to rely on vote kicking a fresh cheater bot every few minutes.

This is all done by some script kiddy group who apparently want to highlight Valve’s deprecated support. Basically ruin the game until Valve fixes the game. There’s also some measure of farming ingame item drops to sell for money, I think.

Honestly, I don’t believe save TF2 will get anywhere. Valve is clearly uninterested in supporting the game, and who could fault them? It’s an old game, and games don’t need to be supported just because people play them.

The real problem Valve is playing with is that TF2 is still monetized. They should not be selling microtransactions for a game this broken. If they weren’t selling microtransactions, they would be entirely in their right to kill all official support and leave the game to community servers.

My main concern is that Valve will calculate this over the bad PR they’re receiving, and rather than do anything to curb the bot problem, simply kill their support for TF2. I would be okay with this. I think most people wanting to #SaveTF2 won’t be.

Playing GTA IV as my main title at the moment. Really appreciate how down to earth it is in comparison to the next game.

Other than that I’m also playing Orna on my phone when I’m out for a walk. GPS game based on classic RPG mechanics of grinding out monsters n’ shit. Petty good time.

Bit of a late response, but one thing to keep in mind is that this game has customizable difficulty. That is, you can tune individual gameplay elements like economy pricing, crafting requirements, etc. to your needs. So if you bump into anything particularly grindy, just switch it off. This is useful when it comes to tracking down a portal and powering it up with the needed materials to travel, as that can be an incredibly grindy process.

I haven’t played No Man’s Sky in yonks, but this seems as good excuse as any to boot it up on my Steam Deck later tonight and get to building a base.

I think it requires a reframing of the mind. The ‘smart-dumb’ scale is an oversimplification of human intellect. It was never entirely accurate. Ignoring intellectual disabilities, every human is equally as capable as being as smart as any other human. We’re the same kind of animal.

The true factor in intellect is your curiosity. Some people are naturally curious of different subjects and will learn more about those subjects. Some people are incurious about most subjects and won’t learn much at all. Most of the traditionally ‘smart’ people you think of were just sufficiently curious in whatever field they’re qualified in. None of the traditionally ‘smart’ people you think of were born smart.

Foster your curiosity. If you know what excites you, you’re already half way to intelligence.

i think that theory falls apart in modern times because of the severe ideological differences between then and now. socialism back then, even in the west, was regarded as legitimate and a viable alternative. now, in western countries, socialism is 100% tried and failed. it’s irredeemable, so any benefits other countries see from it are 100% because of the gulags.

I find it endlessly fascinating too. Uncontacted peoples in general can inspire a lot of wonder and curiosity in me. It’s like trying to wonder how people felt throughout history, except that with history you have all these records and accounts and evidence left behind to give you an idea. You’ll never know for sure, you can get an idea.

How these people feel and comprehend the world? Total mystery. They are disconnected from the vast majority of humanity in experiences and knowledge.

We know so little about them, and their day to day life would be entirely disconnected from the day to day life of you and me. They know the same about us - basically nothing, except that whenever we visit we tend to bring disaster to their homes. They don’t want anything to do with it and will shoot arrows at visiting helicopters.

And how wild is that? I have to imagine seeing a helicopter when you skipped several tool ages would overwhelm the mind, but it doesn’t. They’re not interested in our planes, helicopters, hulking cargo ships - they just want to be left alone. It’s not like they don’t know we’re cooking some wild shit out here, either. They’ve looted the wreckage of a cargo ship that ran ashore and since then they’ve been observed using new tools in new ways.

I sometimes wonder if we’ll blow ourselves up one day and leave these guys to inherit the Earth.
