IMO those people need to chill. I used to catch shit from my in laws for never feeding my kids meat, but they’re both healthy, strong and they surpass all of their growth and development milestones. Their pediatrician is more than happy with us excluding meat from their diet.

Can you fuck a kid up on a vegetarian or vegan diet? Of course if you don’t know what you’re doing and you feed them nothing but raw fruit or something. I’d argue it’s even easier to fuck them up on a standard American diet. Don’t take your kids to McDonald’s every other day and tell me I’m a shit parent for not feeding meat to mine. (Obviously this last point isn’t directed specifically at you, but at the attitude in general).

Your comment had me hopeful that I had missed news about David Duke’s death.

For anything that calls for ground beef, I usually sub TVP or green lentils. Both are cheap, shelf stable and healthy options.

I’ve been vegan for four years and honestly, while it was practically not difficult for me, there was a pretty big mental hurdle I had to get over. It sounds silly in retrospect, but I literally mourned foods that I thought I’d never be able to eat. Turns out I still eat all the foods I like, just with small adjustments to make them vegan. So glad I switched. Best decision I ever made.

I get where you’re coming from, but I disagree on a couple points:

Game design relies heavily on finding uses for the player character’s abilities. Imagine a metroidvania where you pick up a cool new grappling hook, only to realize there’s no terrain that can be grappled, and most enemies aren’t affected. What’s the point?

In terms of good/bad game design in TTRPGs, my philosophy is pretty simple; If everyone at the table is having a good time, it’s good game design. For my players, getting to use the abilities that they picked or earned throughout the game is super rewarding. For me as a GM, I can scale encounters a little higher knowing that they have a built-in edge.

In fact, my number one resource for game prep is my players’ character sheets. Did someone pick an obscure language as part of their backstory? You’d better believe it’s going to show up in the game! Dragonchess proficiency? Guess what the game of choice is at the local tavern?

Conversely, if an ability becomes the only thing a PC relies on, it can be interesting to add a foil to that ability. For example, one of my players built a Kensei Monk with a specialization in firearms. It was a fun character for him, but the sheer damage output he could do kind of overshadowed everyone else. My solution was to introduce a combat encounter where he could use the weapon, but doing so had a chance to attract more hostile creatures.

Anyway, all this to say that in my opinion, playing to your player characters’ strengths is not only rewarding for them, it can help a GM create some really cool moments.

This is a 100% fair criticism of my comment tbh. I do have a pretty surface level understanding of Batman, and I let my real life frustration with billionaires inform the points in my comment. I’ll take it easier on Bruce Wayne but fuck all other billionaires.

Let me get this straight; this guy was born into the richest family in Gotham. He has enough wealth that he can singlehandedly fund infrastructure changes, public healthcare, mental health resources, social services and rehabilitation. Instead, he uses his money to dress up like a bat so he can beat the shit out of people - and he’s supposed to be the hero??

I had a girl bring a guy friend along on our first date without giving me a heads up for the same reason. I was like, ok that’s a little weird but whatever. I’m certainly not going to give someone shit for doing something that makes them feel comfortable. Ended up chatting it up with the guy friend who turned out to be super cool.

So me and the girl end up seriously dating after a while and she later tells me that she spent most of our first date trying to subtly get her friend to leave so that she could spend more time with me.

You’ve got the beginnings of a point here. The Gates Foundation does have a lot of money in the Israeli occupation. I can’t see what that has to do with supporting Impossible however. Are you implying that supporting any company that the Gates Foundation also supports is an inherently bad thing?

I always thought it was counterproductive to have a beef substitute. Why not just eat vegan food that isn’t trying to mimic beef? Makes more sense. There doesn’t need to be vegan hamburgers or hot dogs we can just eat alternative meals that aren’t trying to be meat subs

Hard disagree. I’m vegan for the animals, not because I think meat is icky. If I can have tastes that I grew up with, without contributing to animal exploitation, that’s a win for me.
