That’s what we get for saying “why can’t I get a mortgage when I pay more in rent just bc my credit is bad”, the banks figured out how to rent properties to you.

It literally is, I cannot sleep and I don’t know why. I mean I know some of why but not the root cause.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Can kids under 10 be possibly taught coding, without even mentioning the word syntax to them ??
3·11 days agoMy dad got me started programming when I was 12. He gave me the “introduction to c# copyright 2002” (dm me for the isbn if you want, I’ll have to find it later). I might have done 10% of the book before I kind of got bored and started doing whatever the fuck I wanted. By age 16 I got my first job, and then in college I always had some sort of contract… nowadays I’m working full-time.
All I have is that anecdote to say no… I really hope other people have had better experiences than me.
But if my anecdote helps then you could have potentially three to four years of teaching them how to problem solve as a skill before you teach them how to program. I’m grateful for the problem-solving skills my dad gave me.
I’m also really grateful that my elementary School taught us how to type properly

Well let’s just be grateful that he put up his hand
I love sidogen/aichat a lot. It’s really intuitive and easy to put in bash scripts.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Messages is rethinking how link previews work, but we're not sure it's for the bestEnglish
6·18 days agoThere is a metadata protocol called opengraph, it’s how apps get the information to display a rich preview. Basically the app takes the link as it’s written in the SMS message or Twitter thread and then it tries to fetch that page and then read the open graph metadata from inside. That should give it enough to show a title description and a background image, considering the web developers implemented opengraph.
If Google is planning to use their own servers basically as a proxy then all this means is that the opengraph rich metadata is going to be a little more stale than if the app just fetch the page and generated the rich metadata itself
Yeah so I get that… most of the US’s debts is to its citizens through treasury bonds. And yeah you can’t print money…
I was asking literally what would change? Like what would that change be? Like what does the world look like where the United States is not in debt?
Realistically speaking what could actually happen in the world to make it so that we are creating value again instead of accumulating debts.

3·1 month agoThe NFTs tried to solve this problem already and it didn’t work. You can change the hash/sig of a video file by just changing one pixel on one frame, meaning you just tricked the computer, not the people who use it.

Linux@programming.dev•What's your "I switched to Linux because..." Story?
3·1 month agoThe windows machine was keeping secrets and refusing to do what I tell it
I want to run some code, let’s have a discussion about admin privileges and finding the correct shell app and oh shit “something went wrong”
Linux just doesn’t say no, if I do something wrong it tells me exactly why it was wrong. So I guess visibility is why I jumped
It’s basically a pattern of:
Me: I have a problem and I need help fixing it
Other: ok but what’s the problem
Me: I can’t do this for some reason
Other: you’re wrong for wanting to do that when you can just do this instead besides you’re dumb and stupid and wrong and you should just deal
So I’d just keep changing things until my computer did what I wanted. I’d be fine using a Mac or windows if and only if it was ok to ask for help (meaning that I got to a point with a problem where I can’t move forward anymore myself and the only 2 options are to give up or ask for someone to contribute something that makes it so I can make progress)
and are making sure to treat you nicer because of it
That’s a bad thing
If I could trust that this is the reason behind a person’s behavior then we wouldn’t be having this conversation. But there are so many potentially malicious reasons to be extra sugary sweet to someone different. Plus it’s infantalizing to be “treated nicer” like I’m not a kid. I don’t want everyone to change their tone I just want to participate and have fun. If political issues were bothering me then I’d go to a political group that centers my lgbt-ness, that’s my choice
The definition of bigotry is someone who’s behavior is a function of what they know about you. If people change their behavior to treat me better or worse because they learn (for example) that I’m gay then I don’t want them at all.

So I got to the ruminations stage of the RCA too but now I have physic-pills that stop the ruminations and I still can’t sleep*
It might be physiological at this point for me.
