- Decides effectively on a whim to use a Python web framework not designed for async.
- Gets frustrated that async patterns are difficult.
- Refuses to switch to framework that’s natively async, deciding instead to rewrite entire codebase in Javascript.
- Writes smug blog post patting themselves on the back.

I hate that this is as plausible as it is a joke.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Sodium-Ion Battery Revolution Has StartedEnglish
11·15 days agoThis isn’t true any more, and it’s mentioned in the article. Sodium is at least equivalent to - and on pace to surpass - the energy density of Lithium. It’s already being used in passenger cars in the Far East.
A haiku:
“It’s not DNS.”
“It couldn’t be DNS.”
It was DNS.
Definitely. I go through that same nightmare every time I have to onboard some new acquisition whose devops was the startup cfo’s nephew.
You can use the S3 API to interop with basically every major provider. For most core components there are either interop APIs or libraries that translate into provider-native APIs.
It’s 100% doable to build a provider-agnostic stack from the iac all the way up to the application itself.
This is why OpenTofu exists.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How would you quickly describe Lemmy to a non-fediverse person?
2·19 days agoI tend to block at the user and community level, my only instance block is feddit.de and that’s only because I don’t speak German and those folks are such prolific posters it felt like I was touring central Europe every time I’d go to the All feed.
Blocking what you’re not interested in is the second best part of Lemmy, IMO.

Actually there were seven kings prior to the establishment of the republic, at which point they expelled the rulers… a reg-ex if you will.
Right, loans and stock market shenanigans are different animals. I assumed you were talking about the former given the context of “how did OpenAI find the money to pay AMD $78bn”.
In retrospect, I suppose options could have played a factor… but then again this level of ratfuckery is well beyond my understanding, so you could tell me Santa gave them the money and it’d make just as much sense.
Your collateral is now useless, give me more collateral or pay me back
I’m no economist, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how loan contracts work. The lender is taking a risk and is agreeing to accept the offered collateral as insurance against the debt. They can’t just decide they don’t like the collateral any more and unilaterally change the terms.
That’d be like if you took out a mortgage to buy a $300K house for a $250K sale price, and then a flood comes through and damages the property to the point that it’s only worth $200K, and the bank came knocking and said “pay it back or at least fork over another $100K so we feel comfy again.”
