  • I expect the algorithm is simple. Posts with the most votes are selected. There are more complex algorithms that perform weighting on various metrics, but then the “algorithm” becomes a black box, and accusations of it being manipulated will surface. Votes can be manipulated, but they are public, so they can be scrutinized.




  • How can you not know. Pretty much everything is analyzed as to whether it is a democrat or a republican. Maybe it’s a Lemmy thing but I also see it on Reddit and Twitter.

    First impressions based on political alignment is alien to me. Politics isn’t discussed so openly where I’m from. People don’t idolise their political leaders either. The news is dominated by US politics, to the point where every action, no matter how minor, is news worthy. If someone does a bad thing, the comments will be "I bet they were a (insert party name here) supporter.

    I’ve had to stop following “world news” communities as they may as well be renamed to “us news”. Whilst not a trend (yet) seeing a political comic triggered me a little so I made a comment.
