Out of the 7 games I have installed 5 have the option to select a version and pause updates. Is it not that common for you?
In any case it seems the developer has the option to do this.
I agree with DRM free services like gog it is a better experience for the user if it’s available option for every game.
I was looking at this yesterday. If you actually go and look at the results for your domain, it’s likely that it will only show you the subscription free details and none of the recent ones
You and I have very different steam clients and experiences. You realise your original comment was quoting how to disable updates? Why don’t you read the links from there and find out.
And developers very much have the ability to adjust how steam provides its updates, including the ability to stay on a particular update if you don’t want to update

In any case, it isn’t a Steam policy, the developer must disable the ability to pause updates on their game as part of the manifest they upload to Steam. So, crappy developers.
Yeah some games have online components that must be updated to work.
So then every update for every game is a “forced update” by the description “pushed without user approval”.
It may be an “unpopular update” but it isn’t forced.
Your quote is how to disable updates. How is this then “forced” on you if it can be easily disabled?
I expect the algorithm is simple. Posts with the most votes are selected. There are more complex algorithms that perform weighting on various metrics, but then the “algorithm” becomes a black box, and accusations of it being manipulated will surface. Votes can be manipulated, but they are public, so they can be scrutinized.

How can you not know. Pretty much everything is analyzed as to whether it is a democrat or a republican. Maybe it’s a Lemmy thing but I also see it on Reddit and Twitter.
First impressions based on political alignment is alien to me. Politics isn’t discussed so openly where I’m from. People don’t idolise their political leaders either. The news is dominated by US politics, to the point where every action, no matter how minor, is news worthy. If someone does a bad thing, the comments will be "I bet they were a (insert party name here) supporter.
I’ve had to stop following “world news” communities as they may as well be renamed to “us news”. Whilst not a trend (yet) seeing a political comic triggered me a little so I made a comment.
It’s news because in American culture having a gay president would be incredibly progressive.

Developers decide whether to allow users to stay on particular versions. Steam provides the option but the games you use don’t use it. Sorry I guess?
