Just using VirtualBox at the moment and it does the job well enough. It has its quirks, but since there are only 3 people that need to use that software, it’s plenty manageable.

Actually managed to convince my boss to run the Windows computers on Mint with a Windows 10 VM just for the compatibility stuff. All of the computers are now so much easier to maintain and teach users on. Nothing randomly jumps at you or changes locations with an update. Nothing asking for random permissions or requiring an update when opening. Pure bliss from an admin standpoint.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some common things people buy that you would never buy?
12·2 days agoI feel this. My car has a super straightforward drivetrain (2003 Miata) and pretty simple electronics that I can follow and understand.
Looking under the hood of modern cars, half the time it’s so enclosed, you just see plastic and once you get past that, it’s an intertwined rats nest of complicated components.
On top of that, modern interiors are just loaded with features I don’t need. Give me driving, climate and radio controls. I don’t need anything more.
Don’t even get me started on all the assist features. I’m driving. I’ll handle the wheel, thanks.

8·2 days agoTurns out, telling an LLM to “work you pile of worthless shit” is actually effective. I like how they go on to explain that they don’t think this would actually be enjoyable for the user, having to be exceptionally negative to get results.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What fictional character do you wish was real?
5·3 days agoI’ll go with an obscure one and say TRON. I think it would be really incredible if there was an actual sentient program on my computer that worked actively to maintain, improve, and secure my system.
We get a limited view of that on the movies, but I would really enjoy being able to just open communication with the computer directly and ask it to help with complex work.
Essentially AGI instead of LLM.

I’ve known only one person with money as a friend and the only reason they were tolerable was because they never brought it up. They were just very successful at what they did and made really good money doing it, but that was only a slice of the type of person they were.
