you certainly have very strong opinions about something you can’t exactly remember. It’s ok to be wrong though we won’t hold it against you :-)

1·2 months agoWell you have your “home” lemmy instance which you are logged in to. Everything you see goes through your home instance. But many things you will see originate on a completely different “remote” instance. Your home instamce nees to be federated and synced in order to the everything that happens in the remote/origin instance
Idk man some here might begin to think you have a drug problem and sexual uncertainty on top. No judging tho

World News@lemmy.world•Anonymous Releases 10TB of Leaked Data: Exposing Kremlin Assets & Russian BusinessesEnglish
81·7 months agoFound this on hacker news, some people there say this data dump is total bs and for the news page itself: It’s an article from an Indian right wing conspiracy news website. Check out their other hard hitting journalism: https://archive.ph/8RGAb"
btw. Metro 2033 Redux also for free on Steam.
Also on a side note, one of the coolest milsim/tactic shooters in recent years is also on sale: Insurgency Sandstorm. It even gets a big map/weapons update next week.

World News@lemmy.world•Germany is now deporting pro-Palestine EU citizens. This is a chilling new step | Hanno HauensteinEnglish
253·7 months agoYeah that is why “deportation” is the wrong word being used… It is an “opinion” piece from one Berlin based journalist, that obviously lacks some legal details or is trying to use a catchy headline. I especially like it when the article says the used “objects that could have been used as potential weapons”. It was fucking AXES they used and obviously the Uni employees were horrified when it happened. Not saying that is right to restrict EU citizens movement in such cases. I’d prefer a proper trial before that happens but they certainly didn’t behave very well.
In case of the US citizen I guess you could call it a deportation/expulsion.
Some translated legal background for you guys: Strictly speaking, in the case of EU citizens, this is not referred to as expulsion/deportation, but as loss of freedom of movement. ‘EU citizens entitled to freedom of movement can lose their right of residence for reasons of public order, security or health,’ according to the website of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Particularly stringent conditions apply to the loss of residence on grounds of public order or security. ‘There must be an actual and sufficiently serious threat to public order or security that affects a fundamental interest of society. This threat must be based on the personal behaviour of the EU citizen,’ writes the Federal Ministry of the Interior on its website.
People who do not come from the EU are referred to as deportees. This is the case here for one person. If a person from a third country jeopardises public safety and order, the free democratic basic order or other significant public interests through their stay, they can be expelled.

World News@lemmy.world•Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War ProtestersEnglish
192·7 months agoI was also sceptical but it seems to be generally true, however the details of it are way more complicated. Read for yourself if you know German or use a translator, one of the biggest Berlin newspapers picked it up and added details : https://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/nach-beteiligung-an-palastina-protesten-in-berlin-drei-eu-burgern-und-einem-studenten-aus-den-usa-droht-ausweisung-13468543.html

World News@lemmy.world•Germany decides to leave history in the past and prepare for warEnglish
31·7 months agoIt’s true, most of your comments seem to have a positive upvote score and therefore more upvotes than downvotes. Your Yale comment seems to have attracted the most downvotes in recent time, currently “-14” “upvotes”/points (seems that some lemmy clients just call them “points”)
So actually it seems that currently Lemmy itself doesnt support showing one users total upvotes/downvotes as this would very much resemble the reddit Karma system and they dont want that.
However as all your comments and the total sum of votes for each comment(I think also the bare numbers of upvotes/downvotes are visible via Api access) are public one could theoretically write a script or build this into a Lemmy client. However the 3 clients I just used to test this don’t support this and probably don’t want to.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are the best tech news websites in your opinion?
5·8 months agoI am proud subscriber since many years and I can say without a doubt the overall best tech/science news page and even most importantly “community”. Like the comments in each article add so much entertainment and knowledge, often I gind myself reading more comments than news on Ars. So many smart commentors it’s really a good place.

1·8 months agoHaven’t heard about this project before. I was using a self hosted Nextcloud instance so far. What would be the benefit of switching to immich? I guess immich does have some advances features, like the tagging was mentioned, specifically for picture management.

322·1 year agoWhat a headline. It literally fell 3%… That’s not much. Actually still higher than their April value. They dropped more than 50% in the beginning of the pandemic and have not recovered from that. Whereas Airbus easily pushed higher than pre pandemic level. So yeah not looking good since a long time.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Any Ways to Block Twitch Ads?English
2·2 years agoI’m not aware there is such a list. Logically it’s mostly small countries where they speak their own languages where no big corporations that produce ads have any interest in. You probably will find some comment like mine where they mention certain countries but this can always change any day. Sometime there is a single advetiser in a country but even then you will see their ad much less frequently than the common US/English based ads.
I can recommend you the Nord Vpn Firefox addon which allows you to only use vpn for certain domains which would be anything with *.twitch.tv

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Any Ways to Block Twitch Ads?English
21·2 years agoSame as on other platforms twitch ads are location based or in this case ip geo location. They are notoriously fighting ad blockers and have long been opting into ad stream injection which is why most common ad blocking techniques won’t work. Basically after all the custom script solutions, like vaft script, started failing l started testing around with VPN taking advantage of the location based aspect of ads. Basically there are countries where noone is paying for running ads. E.g. Czech republic. So basically the most secure way to block ads on twitch is Vpn to certain countries. However I noticed that you need to use IPs from that country for about a day. It seems they are caching your Ip for some but after that you wont get any ads. You can read about all known ad solutioms of twitch here: https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions
Also this does not work with the twitch mobile app and neither with the mobile version of twitch in a mobile browser. However it does work when switching to the desktop version in your mobile browser. So desktop version while using vpn on your phone should work. At least when I tested it last.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•As someone not in tech, I have no idea how to refer to my tech friends' jobs
2·2 years agoThat is not entirely true. It’s a bit more complicated. Yes it is protected since the 1970s but it’s more of an academic title. You needed to study something that is “mainly” of technological or scientific nature. Basically befire the Bologna reform every student in Tec. Unis/FHs did get the title Diplom-Ingenieur. So the engineer part was literally part of your degree. This of course also true in case you studied IT. So yes there are many who call themselves IT engineers also in Germany. However it’s more of a philosophical question how much software development is actually engineering or rather craftsmanship.

Few weeks ago I saw a really cool presentation about the history and current state of Linux phone. It is unfortunately in German, slides in English though: https://youtu.be/JeFoRE72Gu0
